I’d certainly think that throwing a perfect game and a playoff no-hitter will give you certain acknowledgment as one of the best players in MLB. Roy Halladay, the Philadelphia Phillies’ #34 player and starting pitcher did both of these. For this reason, he has been chosen to grace the cover of Major League Baseball – MLB 2k11 from 2k Sports.

Yes, it has been announced by 2k Sports last November 15 in New York City that they have named Philadelpha Phillies expert pitcher, Doc Holliday (Roy Halladay’s nickname) as the cover player for their upcoming video game Major League Baseball® 2K11.

“In the ‘Year of the Pitcher’, Roy has truly distinguished himself as the best pitcher in baseball,” according to Greg Thomas, 2K’s Senior VP for sports development. “Between his dominating season that included baseball’s 20th perfect game, and his exciting performance during the postseason, we believe there is no player more worthy of representing our revolutionary pitching mechanic on the cover of Major League Baseball 2K11 than Roy Halladay.”

Last year, 2K Sports granted a million bucks to the 1st person who pitched a perfect game in MLB 2K10. Roy Halladay pitched a perfect game in real life on May 29, 2010, the 20th such feat in baseball history.

2K’s Major League Baseball 2K11 is scheduled to be released on 2011 during the spring season on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 computer entertainment systems, PSP, Wii, and Windows PC (Nintendo DS version not included).

Drills are routine practice elements used to build strong foundations in players. Hitting drills are effective for solving troubles players face at the bat. Once a coach has identified what dilemma the gamer has, he can utilize the appropriate drill to strengthen that component with the hitter’s technique.

One-knee, One-hand

This hitting drill involves the coach, acting as pitcher, and player the two on one particular knee. The participant extends the front leg, keeps his bottom hand around the bat handle and hits soft tosses from the pitcher, keeping his wrist flat and palm down. The gamer ought to use a short swing, hold his palm inside the ball and steer clear of rolling the wrist.

This drill isolates the player’s movements to concentrate on palm place and strategy, building strength inside the wrists and forearms. The coach ought to be ready to see if the gambler is employing improper strategy, like rolling his wrists or swinging too extended. To take the drill further, the participant can use a smaller bat and swing with only one hand, alternating between the top and bottom palm.

Front within Soft-Toss

This baseball drill also emphasizes shortening the swing and maintaining flat wrists to construct strength and improve quickness. In this drill, the coach feeds inside pitches from behind a screen.

The hitter stands, with the two arms about the bat, and tries to hit the inside half of the ball. This positioning requires the participant to use speedy fingers, since slow arms that drag the barrel of your bat will cause the pitch to jam him. In addition to using speedy fingers, the participant also needs to preserve flat wrists to ensure that the fat component from the bat makes contact using the ball.

The feeder needs to watch the player’s technique to make sure he’s not rolling his wrists or using a lengthy swing. The coach might wish to hold the ball on some pitches to greater observe the stability and stance of the hitter.

Stride and Freeze Tee

This drill addresses the stance and stability with the hitter. If a hitter gets out on his front foot and struggles to preserve his weight again, he’s not able to generate enough power to be an successful hitter. By employing a tee, the hitter and coach can each concentrate on positioning and stance without the added element of watching for the pitch.

To begin this drill, set up the tee without the ball. The gamer then prepares to hit the imaginary ball by taking his stride and releasing his arms back again. The hitter then freezes and makes it possible for the coach to check positioning, making sure his hands and weight are again and in suitable balance.

At this point, the coach then puts the ball on the tee and enables the gambler to hit from that place, watching to ensure proper follow-through and balance. After repeating this drill 10-15 times, the hitter can then swing with the ball on the tee from the beginning.
