Baseball equipment: Baseball gloves – Infielders and Outfielders

Let’s continue the descriptions of baseball gloves for each player in the field. The second baseman, shortstop and third baseman are collectively known as the infielders. Their baseball gloves are smaller than the rest of the gloves that enable them to pass the ball without difficulty to the other hand. Given this ability, it is faster for them to throw the ball and get the offensive team out of the game.

If a baseball was hit and seemed to be flying, the only hope to get it is through the outfielder’s gloves. These equipments are specifically designed to catch balls in the air with its long fingers which is about an inch or two longer than the usual gloves. Though they need to throw the ball once caught, the main goal is to catch the flying baseballs.

If you have been watching baseball games, you probably saw the players wearing this equipment in the defensive side. Gloves enable them to catch the baseball after a hit. Mostly made from leather material, baseball gloves differ on styles as players differ on field positions.

To start with, let’s discuss the first baseman. This player’s gloves are very wide and the edge makes a big curved shape. The reason for this baseball glove design is to help the player get the balls after being thrown by team mates. The goal assigned to this man is to get everything tossed to him without hesitation. Even if the baseball is full of dirt from the ground, these gloves would finish the scooping task with ease.
Baseball equipment: Composite baseball bats

The composite bat is one of the latest technologies in the baseball world. This innovative equipment is composed of fiber material and resin. These components enable it to be categorized as fragile. It has the possibility to break or have cracks so make sure that when you purchased your composite baseball bat, you have its guaranteed warranty.

This unique bat faces a controversy. It is now banned on college games due to its natural break in characteristics that was taken advantage. This composite baseball bat tends to be more responsive or hot as time passes by. Because its components eventually loosen up, the effect upon contact with the ball is a good hit. But a process called rolling could do this faster in manufacturing plants thus allowing them to manipulate games and put the players in danger of bat’s breakage. Do not worry because the performance of this composite baseball bat can still be witnessed on youth and high school baseball games.
Carlos Beltran Knee Surgery

Carlos Beltran, the Mets’ center fielder will be missing the entire spring training as well as their opening game as he underwent surgery on his right knee. The prognosis is he will only be able to resume with baseball related activities after 12 weeks. And it seems that his ballclub was not aware of him undergoing surgery. Last season he only got to play in 81 games, his lowest since his major league debut with the Kansas City Royals, because of on-going problems with the knee. But there had been no indication of renewed problems with Beltran as he even made a public appearance in Manhattan and said that he hasn’t experienced any pain in his knee, even his ballclub didn’t release any kind of statement about Beltran having any recurring injury. That’s why him undergoing an arthroscopic clean out of the arthritic area of his knee came as a surprise to everyone but Beltran.
Baseball equipment: Hybrid baseball bats

If you come across wooden, aluminum and composite baseball bats, any combination of their typical materials give rise to what we call hybrids. Yes, you read it right. The word hybrid which is accompanied on genetics can now be found on your baseball game equipments.

Some manufacturers came up with the idea of mixing the common baseball components to maximize the baseball bat’s capabilities. Some used aluminum, fiber material and resin to make a baseball bat while other models are made up of wood and composite materials. Whatever baseball bat you plan to purchase, make sure that you are not totally relying to it on a game. Better gear yourself up with the experience by practicing and mastering the basics.
Baseball bat accessory: Grip tape and pine tar
Not all players opt in having a baseball bat accessory unless deem necessary. If you are comfortable in using the aluminum bat or composite bat, you might not look for something to give you a good grip. Grips are not typically easy while using wooden baseball bat, which is why the use of a grip tape or pine tar is highly recommended.

Athletic grip tape can be purchased in your favorite baseball equipment retailer and needed to be wrapped around your wooden bat’s handle. This would be a good help in attaining a good quality grip.

If you find yourself being offered with a rag during a baseball practice, do not be shocked. Pine tar is more popular than the grip tape and is commonly applied on rags to make your bat handle easier to grip. This brown substance is sticky and quite annoying to some people. Now, if you have a wooden bat make sure that your pine tar or grip tape comes in handy with it.
Baseball equipment: Wooden baseball bats
Have you ever wondered why professional baseball leagues use wood bats in the games? The reason is that a bat that is made out of wood needs good hitting techniques to produce quality results. That is only possible with players that acquired precision and experience through time.

Because wooden baseball bats are cheaper than the aluminum and composite ones in the market, these are also a good choice for beginners during batting practices. They are easy to make and manufacturers just need few raw products to utilize for its production.

You can find wooden baseball bats that are made up of bamboo, hickory, ash and maple. Maple-made bats are considered tough and do not break easily while ash and hickory made bats are not that popular because they are heavier. Before you buy a wooden baseball bat, try it out first.
Eri Yoshida

Eri Yoshida was a high school student at Kawasaki-kita Senior High School in Kawasaki. At the age of 16, she was the first female drafted in the Japanese professional baseball team, Kobe 9 Cruise. She played alongside male teammates Her pitches have been clocked at 101 kilometres per hour (63 mph),and knuckleball sits around 50 mph. She started learning knuckleball after watching videos of Major League Baseball Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield.
This is the best example to show that women too can play a man’s game. She wasn’t just drafted, she really played the game and proved to everyone that she can be an equal player with her male teammates. And did even better than most. She became a sensation. It was recently announced that she will be part of the Arizona Winter League on January 24, 2010 to showcase her skills with hopes of being signed in the Major League Baseball.
Derek Jeter

Derek Jeter, the best SS to play the game today. The captain of the NY Yankees, probably the most glamorous ballclub in the sport. Jeter has been the face of the Yankees ever since he began playing for them. He is the current face of the franchise, what a true Yankee should be just like the other great Yankees were before him, The Babe, DiMaggio, Lou Gehrig, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle. His whole career he has been a Yankee and was instrumental in winning The World Series 4 out of 5 times from 1996-2000, and in effect winning the World Series MVP in 2000. Just this past year he was Sports Illustrated’s 2009 Sportsman of the Year. He’s a guy I would definitely want to have on my team, in my opinion he’s the next Mr. October, with his clutch play in the playoffs. He may not be that spectacular in the regular season but come playoff time expect him to be clutch. I just can’t imagine Jeter playing for another ballclub. It’s like Larry Bird playing for the Lakers or Magic playing for the Celtics. There have been a lot of stars that have played for the Yankees this century, guys like Alex Rodriguez, Johnny Damon, Roger Clemens, Jason Giambi but I really don’t see them as true “Yankees” unlike Jeter because he epitomizes of what a true Yankee is, a guy who works hard, plays without fanfare and recognizes the fans’ support.
Baseball equipment: Aluminum baseball bats

An aluminum bat which is more commonly known as the metal bat has been used in ages. Lots of players once in their baseball career took a shot with it. Its popularity never fades as time passes by. The performance that a good quality aluminum bat shows is still comparable to newly introduced composite ones. Because most people have some difficulty accepting the new technology, they opt to purchase the ever-reliable and convenient aluminum ones.

You may notice that a number of amateur baseball games still include tough aluminum bats in the play and those in the audience really appreciates it. This kind of bat is a good choice for beginners because it will react to any contact with the ball. Unlike the wood ones, the aluminum baseball bats would not require good solid impact. It is still available in the market as youth, adult and senior league models. You may search the eBay for details and compare the prices of your desired models.
